Description

Knowing the Scriptures is a textbook on Bibliology, offering a very comprehensive view of correct teaching on the doctrine of the Scriptures. Its focus is on how to study the Scriptures, and not on the multiplied criticisms of incorrect forms. As such it presents a very handy reference and definition of terms. It explains the attributes of Scripture, the form, the types, and a survey of the Bible in a very clear format, with tables, charts and lists to help the Bible student.

Dr. Pierson explains the general approach and understanding of the Bible and then to actually study the Bible presents a combination approach of using the analytic and synthetic methods, by examining the individual parts and then of the collective whole. The Bible is so unified and artfully formed, that this keeps the child of God from becoming either excessive or deficient in any area of spiritual living.

A note about printed versions. Our work is from the original edition. In determining whether or not to produce another updated version, we considered carefully the edition printed and copyrighted by Zondervan Publishers. We found their “updated” edition deficient in several areas: 1. It is a sloppy recomposition of the original text, and introduces a high count of misspelled and mistyped words. 2. It removed several helpful portions of the text, including the chapter summaries. 3. The printed version has such small margins, it is not helpful to the preservation of the work, nor to those who wish to add marginal notes. 4. The artwork is a facsimile, and further degrades the readability and usefulness of it. 5. The words were not updated to American or modern spelling and usage. The edition is very helpful however in that because the type was recast, it enables easier reading. Also, the Roman numeral system had been updated in most of the Bible references. In consideration of these factors and the fact that Zondervan has historically been difficult to work with in getting copyright permissions, it was deemed important to provide a completely redone update of this classic and very helpful book, and so enable its use among those who love Scripture, once again.
