Description

"The religion is of the very best kind. Few better things have ever been written on their respective subjects than the two chapters on 'Christianity' and 'Helps.' We earnestly recommend young men to read what has been to ourselves a truly delightful work"—Dean Alford.

"Deserves to be read again and again. It is strong with argument and appeal; beautiful with fancy and figure; tender with pathos and piety"—Review.

Entering on Life is not just for young men, as the title indicates, but instead should be titled: How to Build a Quality Spiritual Life. It is a book that every Christian ought to read over and over again, applying the lessons to their daily habits and lifestyle. It begins with the importance of using our younger days well, and then discusses and defines character. It teaches how to choose friends and what to do with a friendship. It defines success and explains the pitfalls to avoid and the things to do to be successful. It defines the Christian life, and what it takes to have a spiritual life. It explains the several things the Christian has to help him grow spiritually and the role each should play in his life. It discusses how to choose books and then how to read them. It then closes with an explanation of what was happening to Christianity that has led to its current degradation and the place that art should have in religious worship. Geikie’s style of writing is precise, clear, and fun to read and full of many references to creation, behavior, history, lore, and sayings in different cultures and languages. His pace is somewhat rapid, but not so rapid it is a chore to follow. The advice of the book was not assembled hastily, but carefully organized and researched, before becoming verbalized. The book stands as a masterpiece that cannot be replaced.
