Johnson's Highest Life
The Highest Life by E.H. Johnson. This book looked good in the review process. Johnson quoted scripture verses and lived in a time when the Keswick movement was at its zenith. He also was a respected Baptist. But, once it got through the setup process and entered the final editing phase, it was not the book it appeared to have been, nor was Johnson! We went ahead and included it, partly because not all our readers are historic Baptists. This book serves as an example of the movement that led away from all the higher spiritual life endeavors and that formed as foundations to the Christianity that exists today that has no part in Christ. It is just "Ianity," with the emphasis on the "I" that begins the word! The book does give an unsympathetic view to the whole history of those who seek to live a holy life and to reach new heights of spiritual growth. It is provided because it does give a broad history, and a viewpoint into how the Keswick and Moody spiritual revivals were misinterpreted. To offset some of the statements made that are misconceptions, read just about any book on this shelf! If nothing else, Johnson's book can stir up some good discussions!
