How to Meet Temptation
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me; Thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me. Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth forever: Forsake not the works of thine own hands—Psalm 138:7-8.
Intelligence is absolutely necessary in spiritual matters as it is in temporal affairs. St. Paul, in one of his beautiful prayers for the Ephesians, asks that the eyes of their understanding may be enlightened, in order that they may know the riches of the provision made for men in Christ Jesus, and what would be the glory of His inheritance in the saints, if they would only carry out the high purposes of God, which He has revealed in His Son. God deals with us according to our spiritual purpose and earnestness, and in proportion as we seek to realize our high inheritance of reason as well as of grace, God will bless us in this world of temptation and trial.
It is easy to say, “Thank God, I am saved through the blood of the Lamb, and I need not fear God’s wrath or man’s temptation; God will keep me safely, because He has provided a way
