The Second Coming of our Lord

The secret things belong unto the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong unto us and unto our children forever—Deuteronomy 29:29.

The study of prophecy is, therefore, profitable to us, especially since as St. Peter writes: “We have also a more sure word of prophecy whereunto ye do dwell that ye take heed; … knowing this first that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but holy men of God spake as they were moved (φερόμενοι, borne along) by the Holy Ghost” (II Peter 1:19-21). Again he says: “Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently; … searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when It testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that is to follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves but unto us they did minister the things which are now reported unto you; … which things the angels desire to look into (I Peter 1:10-12).
