Daniel 9

The Importance of Reconciliation

Reconciliation is a big word used for the process of making something completely right. God saves us from eternal punishment. He then expects us in gratitude to want to reconcile things between Himself and us. We need, therefore, to change our life-style to reflect the changes that occurred inside of us.

Daniel 9 is a prayer that Daniel prayed for the Israelites. Daniel, being of the King’s sons, may have been next in line for the throne in Judah. As a deported king, he had the authority to represent the nation in prayer. He also was concerned that reconciliation be made between God and the Jews so that restoration could take place for His people.

As Daniel prayed he listed a progression of things that need to be accomplished in our lives in order to clear up our relationship with the holy God. These are the path to happiness and spiritual fulfillment.

Realization of the Problem

The lives of an Americans today are so full of static that it seems almost impossible for them to realize there are any problems in their lives at all. As children they grow up in a big hurry in order to leave home. They carouse with their “friends” and always have a radio or television blaring. As adults they divorce and cannot hold onto jobs. They get into such high levels of debt that they must declare bankruptcy. Yet for all of that, they do not realize that the problem is themselves.

We also tend to blame everyone around us for what happens to us. We pretend to be victims of circumstance and people. We think that there is a conspiracy against our prosperity. We hate to work, only because the working
