Our English expression of being “in a lion’s den” is from this story of Daniel being placed there. It stands for being in a situation that seems impossible to escape.

The Law of the Medes and Persians meant the law was permanent and unchangeable. It had to be strictly followed. The Persian Ruler, Cyrus the Great defeated his king and father-in-law to gain control of the double empire. These two kingdoms were joined, with Medes and Persian officers working together and sharing positions. There are many depictions of the soldiers of the two nations marching side by side.
