Daniel 6

The Importance of Prayer

The disciples of the Lord Jesus were awed by the amount of time and the freedom the Lord used in prayer. We read that the Lord would spend all night in prayer to God. Finally, the disciples got together and begged that the Lord would teach them to pray. I am so thankful that they asked! There are several prayers recorded in Scripture, but how does a person know what to say?

This chapter illustrates the importance of spending time in prayer daily. In fact, Daniel spent three periods of time in prayer each day. Some feel they cannot find time to breathe a prayer over their food, let alone three periods of time! Daniel knew it was important enough, and it showed!

The Purpose of Prayer

Prayer Changes Us

Daniel 6:1-3 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; 2And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. 3Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Prayer changes people. By making prayer an integral part of the daily schedule, we become alert and able to deal with situations. Prayer puts things into perspective. It causes us to remember that God is in control of all things, and that much is accomplished by simply placing things back under His care and rule.
