There are several government employees mentioned in Scripture. They include the following samples:

  1. Joseph was a slave but became president of the land of Egypt.
  2. Nehemiah was the cupbearer to the Babylonian King. He asked the king to help the Israelites and was released to serve as governor of Judea.
  3. Esther was an orphan girl and was chosen to be queen to Ahasuerus, Emperor in Persia.
  4. Matthew was a Roman tax collector that left his job to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.
  5. Zacchaeus was a Roman tax collector that repaid all he wronged and gave half of his money to the poor.
  6. Cornelius was a Roman military commander in Caesarea. He invited Peter to come to his home and became the first known Gentile believer.
