Monday, Daniel 1:8-9 & Deuteronomy 6:1-5

God clearly delineates the things we are to do and not do. The very reason Daniel was being deported was because Israel had ignored God’s instructions and was openly in defiance of His laws. Daniel had his life shaken to the core and realized he had to total the line no matter where he was to be found. Obedience shows a respect to God and appreciation for what He does for us. There is never an excuse to live like a heathen person. Are we defiling ourselves by what we eat? What foods should we avoid to show respect to God?

Tuesday, Daniel 1:10-11 & Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Daniel knew that the way to obey God was to always be speaking of God’s Word and using it to guide his path. As such he had wisdom to know how to deal with his guardians. He also knew what to ask. How are we doing on quoting Scripture in everything we do? What verse should we learn today and see how many ways it applies to what we do?

Wednesday, Daniel 1:12-13 & Deuteronomy 6:10-13

God blesses those that follow Him. Daniel could rest assured that God would bless his health and appearance by his avoidance of things that God declares is not healthy. He could also count on the fact that as those around him ate things that God forbids, they would suffer the consequences of not having God’s blessing. What area do we wish to test to see if God’s way is better for us? Who can we ask to make a fair evaluation of how we look?
