Daniel 1:7-21
The Importance of a Biblical Diet
The very first priority a Saint is to learn is God’s Word and His Ways. We never know when we will be called into question about what we believe. In Daniel’s case, life depended on his ability to comprehend and to learn.
The next priority is the absolute necessity of eating in a Scriptural manner. God created our bodies and He gave instructions concerning what is healthy for us to digest. When we depart from His instruction, our bodies react. They begin an internal civil war that robs one of his ability to process information. One’s learning ability is dramatically reduced and his discernment becomes corrupted when anything Biblically unacceptable is eaten.
Society Ideals Are Harmful
Daniel 1:7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
Daniel was put under the care of the prince of the eunuchs. This means that he was viciously mutilated by his captors. The result is that his voice would remain high and he could never marry. It seems strange that Daniel did not dwell on this, making only a slight reference to it. Instead we are being given a graphic example of things that matter.
When the world gets its way we become mutilated. Our Lord warned us that this would happen, but He tells us not to fear it.
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
