Reuben Thwaites    

Reuben Gold Thwaites was born in Boston, Massachusetts May 15, 1853.

Moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1866 where he studied in between farm work.

Became editor of a newspaper in 1872.

Was an associate and later managing editor of the Wisconsin State Journal from 1877 to 1886. He also conducted a news bureau at Madison.

Was elected corresponding secretary of the Wisconsin historical society in 1887, becasue of his attention to western history.

Authored Historic Waterways: Six Hundred Miles of Canoeing down Rock, Fox, trod Wisconsin Rivers in 1888; Story of Wisconsin; Lewis and Clark Expedition, and many more historicly valuable books.

His persistence in assembling and preserving historical records and accounts have kept his books in high demand even today, with most of them enjoying continual reprints.

Died October 26, 1913.
