Delavan Pierson

Delavan Leonard Pierson was born on October 27, 1867 in Waterford, New York. He was raised in Presbyterian churches and his father was pastor of some prominent ones. In 1880, his family was living in Detroit, where his father was pastor of a Presbyterian church. Delavan was 12 and going to school. In 1890 he was student and living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was 22 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a high forehead, blue eyes, Grecian nose, small mouth, narrow chin, light brown hair, fair complexion, and a long face. About 1895, Delavan married Emma Beele. While his father, A.T. Pierson, was the Editor of the Missionary Review of the World, he was managing editor. When his dad died, Delavan took over as editor of the magazine. In 1910, Delavan (42) and Emma (38) had been married for 15 years and they had no children. They were living in Brooklyn, and he was working as an editor for a publishing company. Delavan wrote several books having to do with missions. He was the Sunday School Superintendent at the Bedford Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn, New York. Throughout his life he travelled to England and other countries, and he died around 1935. |
