Alice Mary Hodgkin

Alice Mary Hodgkin was born in 1860. Her family was very influential among the Quakers in both England and America. She was one of the editors for the groups "Friends" magazine. She used her editor's position to try to point out the departure the group was taking from Scripture as their basis and core to social action instead, and the importance of returning to the Scriptures. Unfortunately her efforts were not enough to save the group. However, in contrast to other Quaker writings of the time, her writings are excellent because she accepted the Scriptures as inspired by God, offer the only means of salvation, and are of prime importance to growing spiritually. |
